Before you start
You need a Silver dataset (see Quickstart) and a week of the contract holding. The platform refuses to open a Gold review against a dataset with a contract-broken state in the last seven days.
The review
- Open the review. From the dataset page, Request Gold promotion. The platform attaches your Silver contract and prefilled evidence — the seven-day hold, consumer count, steward history.
- Peer review. Another steward on your domain reviews the contract diff. This is a PR-style review (see RFD 0048); the diff is the source of truth, not a ticket queue.
- Classification check. If your tier is Restricted, a second reviewer from the governance council approves. Internal and Public tiers skip this.
- Merge. The platform runs the promote pipeline, flips the dataset tier, and announces it in the catalog.
After promotion
- The dataset appears with a gold pill in the catalog.
- Downstream consumers get one automatic notification.
- The steward is on call for contract breaks, not PagerDuty.
When a promotion is rejected
The review comments tell you why. Common reasons:
- The freshness SLA is tighter than the data actually sustains.
- The policy tier and the masking policy disagree.
- A consumer already depends on a column you're about to drop.
Address the comments, re-request. The platform keeps the review history on the contract.
