What you will ship
By the end of this quickstart you will have a Silver-tier dataset on the paved path with a schema, a freshness SLA, and a classification policy. You will also have a steward attached and a dashboard that tells you when something drifts.
What you need
- A Causeway workspace (ask Autobahn to provision one).
- A CSV or Parquet file you control.
- Five minutes of read-attention and fifteen minutes of execution.
1. Register the source
In the platform app, open the Catalog and pick Register new dataset. Point it at your file. Causeway infers a schema and opens it in the contract editor.
2. Sign the contract
The contract editor lets you tighten the inferred schema, add a freshness SLA (how stale the data is allowed to get), and declare a policy tier (RAG: Restricted / Internal / Public). Signing promotes you from Bronze to Silver.
3. Adopt a steward
Every Silver dataset needs a named steward. The platform prompts you for one during signing. This is the human Causeway escalates to when the contract breaks.
4. Watch it live
The dataset is now visible in the catalog. Downstream consumers can subscribe; Causeway tracks lineage from here.
